My family and I moved here almost three years ago. As a matter of fact it will be three years on July 4th (or better known as The Fourth of July). The move marked a new beginning for us, we were seeking refuge and a blank canvas that would allow us to dream again.
[INSERT CHEESY LINE HERE] From the first time we visited OKC, I saw a city that had already made incredible strides and presented a world of opportunity for those who would dare to envision something even greater. Sure there are a few things I would like to add… like mountains and cooler summers, but this place quickly became the first place we felt we could really call home. Something about OKC makes me want to push my limits and take a few risks. It’s easy to feel like the “grass is greener on the other side”, but the reality is that the grass brown just like it is here most of the time… and for some reason the brown grass started “growing” on me.
Here are some of the businesses and places that have become part of my life here in OKC…. and I think they should be part of yours (if they aren’t already).
The Plaza District (DNA, Collected Thread, Convergence, Shop Good, Midwest Media, and much more)
Catherine Gikas Photography (my wife’s biz… unbelievably talented)
Cafe Evoke (Free Coffee Monday)
Coffee Slingers (Where I get my fix)
Elemental Coffee Roasters (Great local coffee roaster – give it a grind)
The Wedge (favorite gourmet pizza and place to take my sceptic Texan friends)
Iguana Grill (Taco Tuesday and another good place to take aforementioned Texans)
Good Egg Dining (Cheevers, Iron Starr BBQ, Market C, Red Prime, Republic Gastropub)
Cuppies & Joe (My wife has a serious addiction)
Mediterranean Imports & Deli (sometimes I like to feel like I’m more connected to my Greek roots than I really am)
Bridgeway Church (can’t find better people)
Our Lords Community Church (they have a really good worship guy… OK it’s me)
Trattoria Il Centro (favorite fancy Italian spot… they do it right)
Midtown OKC (just in general… you can’t go wrong)
Broadway Wine Merchants (great selection and friendly helpful folks)
Gatewood Historic District (my home)
OK… it’s a lot I know. But truthfully there are probably more I could list. I dare you to click on the links… and I really dare you to go to them. You won’t be disappointed.
I have also been deeply impacted by many artist and people in OKC, my next post will be dedicated to them.
What are you OKC spots?
